On the Trail of Wilderness

At the heart of this journey lie the seemingly-endless landscapes of the Etosha, mirages and an abundance of animals in their natural habitat. Cicadas chirp, you hear birds singing, grunts and other calls of the animals in the wild. Various scents fill the air as we are immersed in our experience among the animals and plants in one of the oldest nature reserves in Namibia, the Etosha National Park. We also experience life in a smaller private nature reserve and gain insight into the wealth of the wilderness. But when exactly we encounter which animals is up to chance and lady luck.

Upon your arrival at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will be met by our experienced local tour guide, who will take you to your hotel in Windhoek.
After check-in at the accommodation and if time permits, you will be taken on a city tour which is rounded off by a visit to our township, Katutura.

Accommodation / Breakfast at Safari Court Hotel.
Incl. Airport Transfer / City Tour

In the morning we depart from Namibia’s capital, Windhoek and make our way to the Etosha National Park. We pass by many small and historical cities, such as Okahandja, the former tribal centre of the Hereros, followed by a visit to the Tsumeb Mine Museum for the history of the area’s rare minerals, mining efforts and native tribes. Not far from here you can view a mysterious sinkhole called Lake Otjikoto. We spend our night in a wonderful accommodation outside the park.

Dinner/ Accommodation/ Breakfast at Mokuti Etosha Lodge or similar.
Incl. Tsumeb Mine Museum/ Lake Otjikoto

Today we make our way through the park to our next accommodation. During our first game drive in the park, our eyes start adjusting to spot game in the bush and in the distance. Etosha is home to many antelopes, numerous bird species, a variety of wild cats, as well as elephants and rhinos. Patience, coincidence and a bit of luck shape our experience. Our accommodation is a comfortable lodge located outside of the park.

Dinner/ Accommodation/ Breakfast at Taleni Etosha Village or similar. Incl. Game Drive

After a good breakfast we take the second game drive into the park. The Etosha National Park is one of the oldest game reserves in the world. Already in 1907 the area was put under nature conservation and still today covers 22.270 km², consisting mostly of grass and bush savannah. There are excellent opportunities for game viewing, at the many water holes or in the open field. The actual Etosha pan, after which the park has been named, is about 6,000 km² in size. The name ‘Etosha’ comes from the Ovambo and means ‘place of dry water’ or ‘big white place’. Here it may be that mirages deceive us. But in the rainy months, it could really be water. With many great impressions we leave the park again in the late afternoon.

Dinner/ Accommodation/ Breakfast at Taleni Etosha Village or similar. Incl. Game Drive

Today we have another opportunity to observe the many wild animals and to listen to them, how they walk, how they eat, browse, drink and even play. Depending on the season, the smells of the plants and soil in the park are striking. Today we cross the park with the aim of visiting some of the new waterholes and taking in the seemingly endless landscapes and wildlife. After dinner a night drive awaits us. With a bit of luck, we may see the elusive nocturnal animals, such as the aardvark, cape fox, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, genet and many more beating around the bushes.

Dinner/ Accommodation/ Breakfast at Hobatere Lodge or similar. Incl. Game Drive/ Night Drive

On the property of Hobatere we will have the opportunity today to experience a half day game drive in an open vehicle with knowledgeable and experienced rangers. We will have the benefit of enjoying an exclusive wildlife-rich area, whilst the bird-watching enthusiasts can also applaud the variety of species found in this concession.

Dinner/ Accommodation/ Breakfast at Hobatere Lodge or similar. Incl. ½ Day Game Drive

Off to new adventures! Our destination is the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary. In the afternoon we reach the privately-owned game reserve as well as the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge and enjoy a game drive across the reserve. Here, too, we could encounter many different types of game, maybe even some that we have not seen yet, such as sable antelopes and waterbucks. Great new impressions and landscapes engrain themselves into our minds today. We toast to our last evening together with our famous Namibian sundowner drink, the gin and tonic.
